Hi friends, here is another free pattern for you that I think you will love. This is Spider Web Magic Shawl. I designed this one in 2018. I love this yarn so much even though it’s a fingering weight yarn, and it took so many days to finished it, but the result is so gorgeous and warm.
Yarn
This yarn is so dreamy, and it comes with delicious shades to choose from. It is Lang Yarns Dipinto. You will need about 5 skeins to make this piece.
Inspiration
My creations inspired by nature the seasons change through the year. I listen to the moment, and allow the yarn & hook to show me what I capable of making, and trust in the process that I CAN!
I remembered designing this piece because Autumn has approached, and I feel the need to be embraced by nature and the whimsical of the cloudy sky.
I love to witness the transcending of vision to a wearable piece of art.
I hope you will enjoy this free pattern and if you want to get a printable pattern ads-free and have a chance to support my work for a small exchange. You can do it at Ravelry (preferable) or Etsy.
Skill level: Beginners
Material:
- Fingering weight yarn, I used Lang yarn, Dipinto, I used about 1,600 meters/1,852 yards for size S/M, (L/XL = 1,800 meters/2,000 yards)
- Hook 3mm
- A button (approximate diameter 1”)
- Stitch markers
- Scissors & yarn needle
- Measuring tape
In this link, You will find more yarns to choose from which have the same weight as the one I used.
There is a video tutorial also for this design.
Abbreviation US term
- Ch = chain
- St = stitch
- Sk = skip
- Sl st/ sl kn = Slip stitch/ Slip knot
- Sc = single crochet
- Dc = double crochet
- Tr = treble crochet
- Rep = repeat
The pattern offer size S/M, L/XL
***You can modify this design in any sizes by starting the ch with a multiple of 9***
Gauge: 25dc x 12 rows (of the pattern swatch) = 4” x 4” inches
The total measurement of 1 panel is (length) 37.7” x 19.1” (width) inches. This design is simply versatile and is the body wrap, so the gauge would not play a big part here.
In this written pattern, I demonstrate size S/M
This pattern is the multiple ch of 9
S/M ch 117, L/XL ch 135
Note: The beginning ch if not stated as stitch it’s simply meant to build up the yarn.
Double crochet rows
R.1 – ch3, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch st across, a total of 117, (135), turn
R.2 – ch3, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each st across, a total of 117, (135), turn
Spider webs rows
R.3 – ch3, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each of the next 4 dc st from previous row, **ch4, *sk1, 1tr in the next, rep* x 3 more times (total of 4tr), ch4, sk1, 1dc in each of the next 5 dc st from previous row, rep** across the row, ending with a set of 1dc in each of 5 dc st from previous row, turn
R.4 – ch3 (to build up the yarn), 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each of the next 4 dc st from previous row, *ch4, 1sc in each of the next 4 tr st from previous row, ch4, 1dc in each of the next 5 dc st from previous row, rep* across the row, ending with a set of 1dc in each of 5 dc st from previous row, turn
R.5 & R.6 rep R.4
R.7 – ch3, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each of the next 4 dc st from previous row, *ch1, 1tr st on top of sc from previous row, rep* x 3 more times (total of 4tr), ch1, 1dc in each of the next 5 dc st from previous row**, rep*-** across the row, ending with a set of 1dc in each of 5 dc st from previous row, turn
R.8 – ch3 (to build up the yarn), 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each of the next 4 dc st from previous row, *1dc in ch-space, 1dc on top of tr st from previous row, rep* x 3 more times (total of 4tr), 1dc in ch-space, 1dc in each of the next 5 dc st from previous row**, rep*-** across the row, turn
From now on this call as 1 set
Rep R.2 – R.8 for the pattern
Note: No matter how many sets You made, You need to finish with one more double crochet row.
I have made 15 sets plus 1 double crochet row.
Suggestion sets (this only going to add the length)
S/M 15 to 18 sets, L/XL 18 to 21 sets
The first panel made.
Rep the same to create another panel.
Connect 2 panels
This is really individual preference. You can connect both parts as long as You want Your garment to be and this will create the V shape at the back.
I have stitched it together about 9” – 10” inches as I like to have it open and able to use as the wrap around my neck like Scarf as well.
I use sc to connect them together.
Add button: (approximately diameter 1”)
Find the spot at the front to add the button. Make sure that Your button is a good size and able to go through any stitches of this garment. The spider webs stitch make it possible to button it everywhere. So feel free to add more buttons if wish.
Weave in all excess yarn and You are done 😉
