Heart opening, Yarn obsession

Yarn weights matter

You asked me what is my favorite yarn weight? I actually love many sizes of yarn, depending on the project and design that I am working on. Also, the season, weather plays a big role on the yarn weight.

Summer, I used a very thin yarn for swimwear such Alize Diva Stretch as it’s perfect for being in a water. This yarn is 4ply

But when I was in Thailand, I used the local yarn cotton mixed polyester. I usually don’t like polyester, either acrylic, but for swimwear these 2 are the best as it won’t sag in water! This yarn is somewhat between 10ply & 12 ply

I also used lots of Aran yarn, it is 10ply. For example this top I made out of Record 210 color.

I used hook 5mm. Although, the label advice to use 4 – 4.5mm I like my top to be soft and not stiff, for that I used the hook a little bigger than suggested. I will share the written pattern of this design with You soon.

To celebrate my new blog, I’m going to do a free written pattern of my first ever Kimino design that I will start tomorrow using these yarns.

The brown color is Paintbox and the orange one is Rico creative aran from love crochet.com the golden one is Alize Aura from Etsy shop. So if You want to get some of these yarns then go ahead, they do give a discount at the moment. It seems like when Autumn is here, cotton yarn price goes down. But I love cotton so much and had purchased bulky cotton from my sweater project. I will share with You next time.

Tomorrow I will start the Kimino that I design it in my head for a while now. I hope it comes out as beautiful as I vision it 🙂

What is Your favorite yarn to work with? And why? Share with me in the comment below and let me know what would You like me to write about, or what would You like to know about my crochet obsession hihihihi

See You later!

  1. Maya, I have to be honest. On my budget I do a lot of yarn shopping at the thrift stores. There are often times quite a lot of specialty yarn and I have came across some wonderful vintage yarn too, that I have been saving (i guess until I met you!!) I do love to work wtih thread and smaller weight yarns, but sometimes for shawls and scarves and hats I use heavier yarn.
I am wondering when you first begin to envision a parrtern, where does it start? do you picture the center? Many of your summer tops and now the new Autumn one where you danced, they have such a beautiful “personality” right over the heart. I love that.

    1. Yarn in Germany quite expensive. I used to buy yarn from the local yarn shop, but they do sell more expensive than an online shop. Although it feels much nicer to be able to feel the yarn in Your hands, we live outside of town and only go to town once per week for shopping our food. So I prefer to order the yarn online.

I love working with Aran and DK yarn, and as much as I love organic yarn, I can’t always afford to purchase them. So when I have some extra money, I do treat myself with some organic yarn.

This time of the year I do love thicker yarn, but I am not a fan of wool. I just ordered a big box of cotton mixed bulky weight yarn for my next project. I want to make a long sleeves sweater, but I have never made or design such thing. I will see how my fantasy takes me.

About designing, I do not always know what I#m making to be honest 😉 For example, the Autumn Spirit top inspires by my second top Mirage. Do You remember? It looks similar to Selu’s Prelude, but with the Flower of Life motif at the back. While I was making Mirage top then the idea of Autumn Spirit came. So I quickly make it happen before I forget.

Flower of Life is my forever favorite motif to work with.

Thank you Rosena for Your questions. I love that and btw, have I told You that I love Your name 😉

  2. Great blog most people don’t know you’re supposed to use certain yarn for certain projects. Love what you’re doing keep it up!

  3. You really make it appear so easy with your presentation however I find this matter to be actually something which I feel I might never understand. It kind of feels too complex and very huge for me. I’m taking a look ahead in your next publish, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
